We are in the midst of very uncertain economic
times, and the need to be more efficient and
productive is only enhanced. If we want to
survive these tough times, it is important
to run a lean ship. That includes:
- Getting the clutter out of your life, so
your head is clearer to focus on doing your
job, running your business, and/or maintaining
your home.
- Knowing what you have on hand, so you are
not wasting money on duplicate items.
- Implementing systems that keep you from
wasting time and money.
You can do much of these things on your own:
- Decide you are going to go through one
pile on your desk every night for a week.
- Organize your kitchen cabinets so that
you can really see what you have on hand.
How many varieties of breakfast cereal does
one family need?
- Gather your office supplies together in
one place. That way when your kids need
paper for school, or you have a big report
to print, you won't be running out to the
drug store at the last minute; paying twice
the price and wasting precious time you do
not have.
- Make sure you are keeping one calendar
and an extensive to-do list. Check them
both often and block out times to get things
done. Do not try to keep things in your
head. Our lives are too chaotic for this,
and you are only setting yourself up for
failure.
Small changes like these can have a big impact
on your mood. You will feel more in control,
less stressed, and hopefully proud of yourself
for making a positive change in your life.
All the best,
